Notes:

We love these dog ice lollies because watermelons (also known as the smiles of summer), have a 92% water content - making them one of the most hydrating snacks around.

They're a great way to encourage a dog to drink more water and receive healthy minerals, vitamins and nutrients at the same time.

This recipe is extremely versatile and can be adapted for any type of melon or water-based fruit you prefer.

As a low calorie dog ice lolly, they're the ideal choice to keep a dog cool in summer -  just take care to remove any seeds, as these can cause blockages and gastrointestinal upset.

💡 Top Tip: These ice lollies tend to melt quickly because of the high water content. For best results, serve to your pup shortly after taking out of the freezer.

Notes:

Peanut butter is a great source of protein and healthy fats, but it's important to be careful with the type of peanut butter you choose.

For this recipe, we’ve used natural peanut butter which is free from additives and preservatives.

When checking the ingredients, you must make sure the peanut butter you use does not contain xylitol. Xylitol is a type of artificial sweetener found in lots of human foods. Even in small quantities it is extremely toxic to dogs.

We've chosen to make dairy-free dog ice lollies with coconut milk - an ingredient that offers dogs a number of benefits.

Full of anti-inflammatory properties, small quantities of coconut milk and cream can help to boost a dog's immune system, promote healthy skin and maintain a shiny dog coat.

If you decide to use yoghurt instead, remember that yoghurt contains lactose, which many dogs can find difficult to digest.

Carrot, Pumpkin & Sweet Potato

Ingredients:

3 - 4 Carrots 🥕
¼ Pumpkin 🎃
1 Sweet Potato 🍠
⅓ cup Fresh Water 💧

Equipment:

1 Blender
1 Knife
2 Teaspoons
1 Measuring Cup
1 Chopping Board
1 Freezer
6 Ice Lolly Moulds

Servings: 5 - 6

Prep Time: 50 minutes

Method:

  1. Wash all of the vegetables and peel the carrots and sweet potatoes. You will also need to remove the hard skin from the pumpkin.
  2. Prepare to steam the vegetables by pouring water into your steamer or boiling pan. Chop the carrots, pumpkin and sweet potato into small cubes and once the water has been brought to a boil, steam for 10 - 13 minutes.
  3. Use a fork to check the vegetables are soft before removing the steam basket to rest. If using a boiling pan, transfer the vegetables into a collider and leave to cool for 15 minutes.
  4. Pop the steamed veggies into your hand or immersion blender and blend until the consistency is smooth. As with the banana ice lollies, you will probably need to add some fresh water to achieve a consistency that’s runny enough to smoothly pour into your lolly moulds.
  5. Once blended and completely cool, pour the mixture into your dog ice lolly moulds and leave to freeze overnight. The next morning, carefully remove the lolly from its mould and serve to your dog outdoors on a warm summer’s day.
